Sharing bacteria with our children can cause decay!

We all know the bond between a mother and her child is very strong. Now we know that strong bond may include the exchange of bacteria through saliva. This exchange may increase the risk of cavities in the child. Researchers have seen that this “maternal” bacterium not only increases the likelihood of cavities in children but also can predict future cavities.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry has always recommended reducing the exchange of saliva between parent and child. By avoiding sharing utensils, reducing carbohydrates in the diet, and starting a good brushing routine early, these all may help reduce decay in children.

We all love our children, but by taking these few simple steps to prevent saliva from being shared, can greatly reduce decay in our children.
